Honoring Our Ancestors

This blog is dedicated to the Brewer Family of North Carolina. These pages present our recent family gatherings and more distant family history.
We have an ongoing effort to capture the Brewer genealogy to best honor our ancestors. We've identified our ancestors who moved from Mecklenburg County, Virginia to Orange and Chatham Counties, NC as early as 1750. In the 1800s, we saw a migration to Alexander and Iredell Counties in NC, Tennessee, and Kentucky. By the 20th century our family made their homes all over the nation.

The Brewer Family of North Carolina Reunion, June 10, 2010, Statesville, NC

After a hiatus of a year or two, the Brewer Family or North Carolina had our annual reunion on June 13.  I’d guess 70 or so people attended. Each person signed in as a descendant of one of six children of Jerry Milton Brewer (1861 - 1903) and Mary Elizabeth Willet (1862 – 1907). Those children are:
  • Thomas Benjamin Wiley Brewer (1882 – 1952)
  • James Robert Brewer (1886 – 1956)
  • Ila Elizabeth Brewer (1890 – 1955)
  • Harron Biddie Brewer (1892 - ?)
  • Joe Sephus Brewer (1897 – 1965)
  • Dewey Samuel Brewer (1898 – 1977).
We had members from the Thomas Benjamin, James Robert, Joe Sephus, and Dewey Samuel branches of our tree. Below you’ll see photos of the happenings. At the end of this photo series, you’ll see representatives of the four descendant families.

Captain Stephen Wiley Brewer

Family mystery:  This is a photo of Captain Stephen Wiley Brewer who fought in the Civil War.  He lived in Chatham County, NC at the time our family lived there.  His name, Wiley, appeared often in our family.  Indeed, our own Civil War hero was named Wiley Brewer.  To date, we've been unable to prove that Stephen was a member of our family.  If you have ideas, please let us know.
